A new official photo has been released from the Shawn Levy-directed “Star Wars: Starfighter” which recently began production.

The upcoming film stars Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray, standing on some sort of boat or raft. Since day one, Levy and his crew have remained tight-lipped on what they have planned, and now they’ve graced fans with a cryptic tease that has prompted speculation amongst fans.

While several planets with plenty of water have been featured in Star Wars films to date, a fan on Reddit has suggested this could be some sort of an aquatic world that was in a 2002 video game named Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter.

Unlike the previous black-and-white shot, this one doesn’t showcase any significant spoilers for the film other than stars Gosling and Gray. I have a theory. And if I’m right, it’s not the first time where a Star Wars character had to survive a crash landed ship. Ok, call it hunch, intuition, or impulse but I believe it’s an upside-down starfighter in the water and the two are fighting for survival on some unknown planet. Anything is possible at this point.

Andor was a great example of how to film in real locations and add in some background CGI to really ‘Star Wars’ it up. So at this point it’s all speculation and guesswork but we can expect a CGI filled movie.

The film is an all-new standalone chapter and an entirely new original story set in a period of time never before explored in Star Wars.

“The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,” Gosling told the crowd at the April fan event. “It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

Shawn Levy directs a Jonathan Tropper penned script with Oscar-winning cinematographer Claudio Miranda (“Top Gun: Maverick,” “Oblivion”) behind the lens and Kathleen Kennedy producing.

The film stars Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Eva Mendes co-star.

“Star Wars: Starfighter” will be released theatrically on May 28th 2027.

May the force be with you…
