According to an unknown source, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have been tapped to write, direct, and produce the next Star Trek movie in the franchise for Paramount Pictures. This news comes just weeks after Paramount Skydance Corporation’s helm, David Ellison, according to a report from Variety, stated he wanted to move past the Kelvin Timeline adventures and fast-forward toward a new reboot.
Here’s the note from Variety:
The hope is to have a fresh Star Trek movie, though the studio has moved on from the idea of bringing back Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and the rest of the ensemble from the J.J. Abrams reboot.

Goldstein and Daley, the filmmakers behind Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as upcoming celebrations for the 60th anniversary of Star Trek in 2026, will also produce under their GoldDay banner. The duo recently wrapped the Apple feature Mayday, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh.
Sadly, the report does not offer any details about the plot. However, the unnamed source tells the publication that “Goldstein and Daley’s film is a completely new take on the Star Trek universe and is not connected to any previous or current television series, movies, or prior movie development projects.”
Sources also told Deadline, although this news has NOT been officially confirmed, the new movie will feature characters never seen before in the science fiction franchise’s history.

It has been nearly a decade since the last Star Trek big screen film, 2016’s Star Trek Beyond, with multiple attempts to make a sequel, including Star Trek 4, but they have failed to materialize due to various issues, such as director and writer changes.
Of course, we will be taking exciting news with a massive grain of salt. Although this report isn’t just coming from any old website, it’s coming from a reputable source such as Deadline.
Update: Late last evening, John Daley posted on his X (Twitter) account something positive. He neither confirmed nor denied leaving a wonderful message.

As far as the film adventure goes, we are still in dry dock and preparing for a five-year mission. But this news brings us closer to clearing the moorings. Further details are not available at this time. A release date has not yet been set.
