Cillian Murphy Returns in Netflix’s Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man Trailer

‘Peaky Blinders’ Movie Trailer: Cillian Murphy Brings Tommy Shelby in First Guns-Blazing Footage From ‘The Immortal Man’

Netflix just released the first trailer for next year’s movie, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which serves as a continuation of the hit crime drama series that aired for six seasons on BBC and later on Netflix.

The Peaky Blinders series follows the story of the fictional Shelby crime family, led by Thomas Shelby, played by actor Cillian Murphy, as they rise from small-time gangsters in post-WWI Birmingham, England, to build a vast criminal empire through violence, extortion, and ambition, clashing with rivals and the police while navigating family loyalty and personal demons.

For those of you unfamiliar with the series who want to have a chance to watch it from the beginning, we don’t want to give too much away about the Season 6 finale. What we can tell you is that it was quieter and more contemplative, focusing primarily on Shelby’s long-standing internal struggle.

Some have called the series ending “perfection” and emotionally satisfying, while others found it lacking closure and wondered what really happened to Thomas Shelby.

Today, fans of the long-time series received an early holiday gift, with Netflix finally dropping a brief minute-long teaser trailer, which shows the very first footage of Shelby since we last saw him in the series finale. He appears to be wandering around an overgrown cemetery, looking very much like an isolated figure before we hear an unknown voice asking, “Whatever happened to Tommy Shelby, the famous gypsy gangster?”

We then hear him declare: “I’m not that man anymore.” The clip also teases all sorts of dramatic events, from massive explosions to a gathering of a group of apparent Nazis and glimpses of Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne and Barry Keoghan, whose character appears to lead a new generation.

Creator’s Steven Knight describes the film as an “explosive chapter” taking place about four years after the series finale, pushing the story into 1940 during World War II, featuring gunfights, Nazi salutes, and the “Birmingham blitz”.

The trailer for the long-awaited movie already has fans freaking out and taking to social media, hailing the trailer as a “masterpiece” and the “best Christmas present,” with many reporting “goosebumps” from the cinematic quality. Viewers have noted the series’ signature aesthetic—moody lighting, slow-motion walks, and “sizzling” screen presence from Murphy.

Alongside the Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy, is Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, and Tim Roth, and Stephen Graham.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which premieres in theaters March 6 before dropping on the platform March 20.
