Disney and Lucasfilm have released a brief teaser for the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu movie today, announcing that the first full trailer will debut on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

The 15-second teaser, released on its @starwars X platform page, is filled with all-new footage that evokes an “old-school” Star Wars vibe, characterized by a return to the gritty, lived-in feel of the original trilogy. It features X-Wings and Y-Wings flying against a beautiful sunset, an astromech droid, and Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) with his pal Grogu in the cockpit of a ship resembling the original Razor Crest, messing with the controls, with Mando saying, “Never touch the buttons,” sharing sound advice.

Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man 2), the film follows The Mandalorian and Grogu in a time when the evil Empire has fallen and Imperial Remnant warlords are scattered throughout the galaxy.

Specifically designed for the premium large-format experience, this epic adventure will feature movie scenes shot with only IMAX-approved cameras optimized for taller aspect ratios, showcasing enhanced visual effects, custom-built sets, and virtual production in order to create an immersive cinematic experience intended to captivate moviegoers.

Favreau recently discussed the hurdles of adapting “The Mandalorian and Grogu” from a streaming series to a theatrical film while speaking at a special Disney event attended by Polygon, citing the major challenges in upping the technical scale for IMAX and enhancing visual fidelity.

“With Star Wars, we have to execute at that tech level,” Favreau said. “So the challenge becomes: Okay, we presented a cinematic experience on the small screen. We have to up our game now for the movie theater. That means taller aspect ratios for IMAX, building sets that take full advantage of that, and making the visual effects of the quality and caliber that we have to notch everything up. And then the storytelling as well.”

The filmmaker also noted the significant steps involved in crafting a two-hour narrative that sustains audience engagement in order to make it a worthwhile experience.

“That adventure has to fill up the screen and has to be something — at this moment in time, when so much is competing for attention — that you’re going to stop what you’re doing, and you’re going to go to a movie theater, and you’re going to sit down in that movie theater, and you’re not going to be able to pause it, and you’re not going to be able to eat the food out of your refrigerator,” Favreau said. “You have to have such a good experience that you say, ‘This is worth my time. Let’s go again. I want to bring you. You should go see it.”

While the brief teaser for the trailer arriving tomorrow is short, it may have given fans what they’ve been looking for, intense cinematic moments that look visually epic on the big screen, rather than the September teaser trailer that felt like an extension of the Disney+ series.

Whether the film lives up to its trailer’s hype remains to be seen until its theatrical release, as most trailers are designed as marketing tools to maximize interest, sometimes highlighting the best scenes or misrepresenting the tone. While some films, such as Mad Max: Fury Road or Inception, successfully match their high-octane previews, many others fail to deliver on the promises made in their trailers.

Ultimately, the best way to enjoy a movie without disappointment is often to skip trailers entirely to keep the experience fresh and unpredictable. But this film is just too important to simply not sneak a peek at what’s to come. Seven years is an awful long time, my friends.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026. All three seasons of the series are available now on Disney Plus.
