New Empire Magazine Image From The Upcoming ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Movie

A new glimpse of the upcoming movie The Mandalorian & Grogu has been revealed in the latest issue of Empire magazine, which is set to be released on November 20, 2025.
The new world exclusive image, which has been circulating online as part of a magazine preview, provides a fresh glimpse of Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu as they embark on their first theatrical big-screen adventure, which picks up after the events of the Disney+ series. The accompanying article features an exclusive interview with director Jon Favreau, who discusses some detailed insights into the characters’ relationship as they chart a new path with the New Republic.
Empire Online shared a still that shows the duo in what appears to be a vibrant cantina setting, with warm lighting and detailed sci-fi décor, a classic element reminiscent of the Star Wars universe.

Favreau specifically notes, in the Empire magazine article, that Din Djarin’s priorities have changed, moving away from being a “hired gun” to working for the “good guys” (The New Republic).
The Mandalorian and Zeb Orrelios (Steve Blum), the Lasat character from Star Wars Rebels, appears in The Mandalorian & Grogu movie.
The filmmaker said they got to have a ton of fun with the Zeb Orrelios character, previously seen in the animated Star Wars: Rebels series on Disney+, in this new cinematic adventure
“Now we get to really have fun with him,” Favreau teased. “He’s such a compelling character, even if you’ve never seen Rebels, between the voice, the swagger, and the physical ability.“

Din Djarin and Grogu, will be the emotional core of the film. Following their formal adoption in The Mandalorian season 3, the movie sees them working together.

Star Wars films show significant character progression and growth, most notably with Luke Skywalker and Anakin Skywalker. Luke evolves from a naive farm boy to a wise Jedi Master, while Anakin’s journey is a tragic descent into the dark side. Other characters like Darth Maul and Rey also have notable arcs, with Maul transforming from a minor villain into a complex character and Rey developing from a scavenger with mysterious abilities into a powerful Jedi. Favreau mentions how important this is for the legacy of of the franchise.
“Star Wars is always about progression and growth and characters evolving, sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad.”

The director commented that Din was now a mentor and teacher of the trade, along with being a partner.
“It’s about apprenticeship, it’s about one generation teaching the next.”
Favreau also notes that Grogu’s growth will continue and “that happens over the course of the film.” as Din Djarin’s apprentice, with the story focusing on their “central relationship” and the progression of their dynamic as they face new adventures together. He mentioned the film will emphasize growth, mentorship, and the bond between them as one generation teaches the next. While details are sparse, the film is expected to show more significant development for Grogu.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau, who is also producing alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce.
The film’s music is composed by Ludwig Göransson, who returns to score the franchise after working on the Disney+ series.

Fans definitely can’t wait for Din Djarin and Grogu to embark on their most thrilling mission yet in Lucasfilm’s all-new Star Wars adventure filmed for IMAX and opening exclusively in theaters May 22, 2026. We certainly can’t wait to see what Favreau and his team has in store for us either.
